he will be dinged all the time, not 100% a lot, not really a good pocket passer, though surrounded by talent and top OL. In a few years, or less, this will be seen as a bad move.

They should have made him prove it one more year

Much of his success was team oriented, especially when running the ball with that blocking he was getting

Probably a mistake but if you pay a guy like Jones 40 per year then it’s not that bad in comparison

I think hurts is alot better than some othe the other running QB's if they build the right offense around him which they have he will win a SB.

$51M a year, $179 guaranteed so they pay him $51M a year for 4 years at least.
With the salary cap, it is realistic that they will not be able to lets say, keep or sign, five $10M a year players, or three $17M a year players.
Players will leave for FA, his surroundings will weaken, he will be dinged a lot, and the last 2-3 yrs will be a disaster.
Bad move, but this year they are SB contenders again if they stay healthy.
I thought NFL owners had learned their lesson on paying running-too-often-QBs $45-$49M a year, but, nope, the stupidity continues.

I'm just baffled because all of us saw how he had a stampede running in front of him most of the time clearing the way

I'm not sure we've ever seen a dominant group of blockers as clearly as we did last year with Philadelphia

So the point is, it wasn't just Hurts making that offense go

All these big contracts just lose against Pat Mahomes.

That will end up as some very bad dead cap hit in years 3-5. And he has no trade clause which makes it even more difficult to get rid of him.

Highest paid qb/ no trade clause/ 1 good season/ lacks natural talent/ poor passer/ will need to release players. Philly had good to great players last year everywhere. Best O line in the game... Solid TE. 2 good to great receivers. And they may take Robinson at RB at #10

So what would you do? And provide something realistic as an explanation, not put him in a cage until he accepts a more reasonable deal.

Trade him and put a project QB in there? You think the vets on the team gonna be cool with that? What if he sucks and you win 6 games. That’s a horrible idea when your title window is now.

$51M a year that cannot be spent on three $17M a year players.

There is a long list of quarterbacks that would have also taken the Eagles to the Super Bowl last year with all that talent.

What QB do you think they should get? What 17m players?

These hypotheticals sound better until you start attaching names to it. Players worth 17m don’t really make it to FA so largely end up being bad values. Paying Jacoby Brissett 2/20 and resigning a few of the guys they lost wouldn’t give them a better chance to win over the next few years imo.

QB play was awful in the nfl last year, scoring was at a 12 year low, good luck finding some stop gap and not falling off.

I don’t even like hurts that much but pretending he doesn’t have a great amount of leverage is a leap. People also overrate the level of commitment because of the sheer dollars. I mean if it doesn’t workout you suck for a few years, so? The Eagles just did suck for a few years. Somehow they kept the lights on tho. Not like you get relegated to the USFL if risk taking goes bad.

No brainer. Had to sign him and obviously going to be highest paid player as he was the next qb up.

Was the best player on the field during the super bowl. Probably were just his fluke fumble in the 1st half from winning the super bowl.

Has come along ways. From losing his starting spot at Alabama and having to transfer---to the highest paid player in NFL. The kid has had a hell of a run.

Nobody is worth that amount of money. Hope the Eagles took out an insurance policy

It was definitely a fluke fumble

But was it also a fluke year?

Eagles better hope not
